Global Dispatches
This novel, published in 1996, was a tribute to the great story. An anthology of many short stories, all based around the original novel. Edited by Kevin J. Anderson, and dedicated to H.G Wells, George Pal, and Jeff Wayne.

Featuring some very original and very entertaining pieces of fiction the Novel tells the story of various famous characters from around the world, and how they encountered the Martians. These stories include Characters such as Mark Twain, aiming to catch a pair of live Martians as they destroy Eastern America, and even people such as Pablo Picasso as he watches the Martians arrive in Paris, only to melt like solder Eiffel's new tower.

It's hard to get a new copy these days. I presume it is long out of print, but, there is hope. Amazon and ebay sometimes have copies in their various auctions and small shops. Keep an eye out for it, it does nothing but compliment Wells' original tale. Here is more info to help you get hold of a copy.
